Building on Nearly Two Decades of Retail Experience
Since joining the FDP, Timothy has gained firsthand experience in Giant Tiger’s operations while learning from experienced store owners and retail professionals.
For Timothy, one of the program’s greatest strengths is the support and mentorship available throughout the entire journey.
“The experience thus far has been both humbling and exciting,” said Timothy. “As much as we think we may know, there are always people around us with something to teach us.”
Through hands-on training, FIT members gain exposure to various aspects of running a Giant Tiger store, from buying practices and business operations to team development and customer relationships.
The program also provides opportunities to build professional networks and learn directly from experienced owner/managers and Franchise Regional Partners (FRPs), whose knowledge and insights help prepare participants for their next steps.
“The mentorship aspect of the program is fantastic,” Timothy shared. “As we step into a store for the first time, we are mentored by knowledgeable owner/managers and FRPs whose insights into their respective markets and business practices are invaluable.”
He described the mentorship experience as having someone in your corner who encourages you to think differently, challenges your instincts, and helps strengthen your natural abilities as a retail leader.
A Supportive Community Focused on Success
Beyond the training and professional development, Timothy says the relationships he’s built have been among the most rewarding aspects of his FIT journey.
From his first day, he felt welcomed and supported by colleagues who genuinely wanted to see him succeed.
“The concept of ‘the new guy’ or ‘outsider’ has never been a feeling I’ve had, even from day one of the program,” said Timothy. “Without exception, everyone I’ve had the privilege of meeting has been nothing short of amazing, welcoming, and insightful.”
These relationships have provided Timothy with a valuable network of people he can turn to for advice, guidance, and encouragement as he continues working toward his goal of becoming a Giant Tiger store owner.
For Timothy, the opportunity to one day operate his own store while building meaningful relationships with the community is what makes the FDP especially rewarding.
